Pediatric Depression Clinic

We bring multiple experts together to help children with depression get the treatment they need.

Children experiencing depression may have decreased energy, feel unmotivated or even express thoughts of hurting themselves or others. They may also have other psychological or medical issues that can be evaluated and treated at the same time as depression.

At Children’s Health℠, our experts provide a thorough evaluation to determine the most appropriate care plan to manage your child’s depression and health. We measure your child’s progress, so we can adapt their care throughout their treatment.

We treat children ages 7 to 17 in the Depression Clinic, many of whom are referred to us by their regular doctor. Parents can also call us directly, and we’ll guide you through the care options that are best for your child.

Customized, compassionate treatment

We tailor your child’s care to their individual needs. Treatments may include individual therapy, play therapy, group therapy, parent and family therapy, medication and more. Your child may come in for regular outpatient visits or participate in more intensive care.

Working together for your child

Your child will have access to a variety of specialists, depending on the care they need. Your child’s team in the Depression Clinic may include:

  • Clinical therapists, who provide evaluations to diagnose your child’s condition and understand what may be causing it. These therapists also provide ongoing care.
  • Child psychiatrists, who provide diagnostic evaluations, provide medication management and offer consultations
  • Child psychologists, who provide thorough diagnostic assessments, psychological testing, and may provide ongoing therapy.

Experience with complex cases

We regularly treat children and adolescents whose depression is complicated by factors such as complex health issues. Our team approach and connection to experts throughout Children’s Health and UT Southwestern help us provide comprehensive care for your child.

Developing better treatments

Our clinic is committed to providing evidence-based treatment. We continually evaluate the most effective ways to help children and adolescents with depression. Many of our clinicians are also world-renowned researchers who lead the field in proven treatment methods for depression. This expertise helps us develop new and innovative strategies for preventing suicide, managing medication and more.
