Language and Interpreter Services
For families who do not speak English, talking to nurses and doctors about their child’s illness can be challenging – so we offer interpretation services free of charge. Please inform your caregiver if these services are needed.
Language translation services
All Children’s Health℠ staff members have access to interpreting services for talking with their LEP (Limited-English Proficiency) patients, no matter the language. Language translation services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Translation is available in Spanish, American Sign Language and many other spoken and sign languages. If you require the assistance of a translator, please notify your provider's office so that arrangements can be made for you to have the appropriate language services provided.
For all languages, other options available are over-the-phone interpreting services through two contracted vendors for over 100 spoken languages as well as video remote interpreting via an iPad for all spoken languages and ASL (American Sign Language).
Digital interpreters (MARTTI)
In addition, several departments at Children’s use a new high-tech tool called MARTTI (My Accessible Real-Time Trusted Interpreter) to facilitate communication. MARTTI provides two-way digital video/audio communication, allowing a patient’s family to hear, see and talk to a remote interpreter live, via a wireless computer connection.
