Innovative Care for Spinal Defects

Whether your child was born with a spinal deformity, suffered from trauma that caused it or has a spinal tumor, our team offers a variety of non-surgical and surgical treatments. As leaders in spinal care, we can help your child live their best life.

We know you may feel scared when you first learn that your child has a spinal deformity. You also may be anxious about their future. But rest assured: Our team has seen every type of spinal deformation in every type of child. With our innovative therapies and expert surgeons, we’ve helped thousands of children across Texas and the U.S.

State-of-the-art care

We offer innovative treatments, techniques and surgeries that take into account your child’s age, their specific spinal deformation and the severity of their condition. These include:

  • Axial traction. This treatment is used for children with spinal trauma or a congenital deformity. We put your child’s head in a device that pulls their body to restore alignment in the spine.
  • Back braces or custom-designed vests. This is the No. 1 defense we have to reduce pain and protect your child’s spinal condition from getting worse. For some children, bracing can help prevent or delay the need for surgery.
  • Growing rod surgery. Growing rod surgery may be the best option for children who are still growing and have:
    • Painful spinal pressure
    • Spinal cord weakness
    • Neurological dysfunction
    • Scoliosis
  • Spinal fusion. Spinal fusion surgery can permanently stabilize your child’s spine. This is the surgery we recommend for children who haven’t responded to more conservative therapies or aren’t candidates for growing rod surgery.

Healing beyond surgery

Our team provides additional support for children who need surgery. We offer both inpatient and outpatient physical therapy to help strengthen your child’s muscles and coordination. We can also get your child connected to a Child Life therapist or psychologist to help them cope with the emotions and challenges they may face.

We’re leaders in North Texas

We’re one of the few places in North Texas that offers an “all-in-one” approach to treating spinal deformations. You won’t have to travel far from home to get the care your child deserves, from the initial diagnosis to treatment (non-surgical or surgical) to any form of rehabilitation.
