Biography
Alvin Chi, M.D., is a sports medicine physician at Children's Health℠, who specializes in treating sport and physical activity-related musculoskeletal injuries. Growing up in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Dr. Chi remembers the profound impact sports had on him. As an avid club and school soccer player, he struggled with overuse injuries unique to the pediatric population. His struggles with overtraining sparked his interest in medicine and inspired him to become a sports medicine physician that helps athletes optimize their performance while preventing and managing injuries unique to their sport.
Dr. Chi majored in kinesiology at Rice University and graduated from medical school at Texas A&M College of Medicine. He attended pediatric residency at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City where he provided sideline coverage for Bishop Ward High School, Sporting KC Academy, and the NAIA National Basketball Championship. He attended sports medicine fellowship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and served as a team physician for Ohio Dominican University and provided sideline coverage for the Columbus Marathon. In fellowship, he was trained to use diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injections to broaden skillset in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal injuries.
As a passionate learner who is always hungry for improvement, Dr. Chi has spoken in multiple CME-accredited conferences on topics including pediatric back pain and youth sports specialization. Dr. Chi strives to be a clinician who listens to his patients and provides personalized care that addresses his patients’ unique needs.
Outside of work, Dr. Chi enjoys reading, running, Olympic lifting, and going to restaurants with his wife.
