Pediatric Emergency and Trauma Care
The Children’s Emergency Department is located in a state-of-the-art facility. Children’s Medical Center Dallas is the first pediatric hospital in Texas with a designated Level I Trauma Center and the only one in the region. Transport services are available when needed to move patients rapidly from other healthcare facilities.
Our emergency department is staffed around-the-clock by board-certified pediatric emergency medicine specialists, and a wide range of other pediatric specialists are available as needed.
We provide comprehensive emergent and urgent care for infants, children and adolescents, including:
- Critically ill and injured children
- All emergent conditions
- Non-urgent conditions (in our adjacent First Care facility)
Those with less serious injuries are managed by highly-qualified pediatric surgeons of the following surgical sub-specialties:
- General and thoracic surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Ophthalmology
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery
- Orthopedic surgery
- Plastic and reconstructive surgery
- Urology
In addition to surgeons, our trauma team includes:
- Other physicians
- Nurse practitioners
- Nurses
- Care coordinators
- Child life specialists
- Social workers
- Physical therapy and rehabilitation specialists
Our physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and support staff are specially trained to care for acutely ill children. Our care team also includes dedicated clinical pharmacists, respiratory therapists, social workers, child life specialists and chaplains to address emotional, as well as medical, needs during emergency situations.
As we are part of a teaching facility, the Trauma Service at Children’s also trains resident physicians and provides continuing medical education to other physicians.
