TeleNICU by Children’s Health Virtual Care

In 2013, Children’s Health℠ launched Texas’ first and only dedicated neonatal telemedicine service. Our TeleNICU program connects neonatologists at your hospital’s Level 2 or Level 3 NICU with UT Southwestern neonatologists and 150 clinical and surgical subspecialists.

Gain access to world-class neonatal care

  • Ranked as a top 20 Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine program by U.S. News & World Report
  • Highly trained, board-certified UT Southwestern Pediatric Group neonatologists are there to provide consultation for your patients 24/7
  • Level IV NICU support 24/7, all from within your hospital – a key component of meeting compliance requirements for Level III NICUs
  • 53% of NICU patients at our participating TeleNICU facilities remained at home hospitals

How TeleNICU Works

  • Secure a mobile cart at your hospital
  • Hold a physician-to-physician call to determine if a virtual consult is necessary
  • Schedule a consult with Children’s Medical Center Dallas
  • Access mobile cart at the point of care
  • Consult virtually with a neonatologist from our Level IV NICU
  • Discuss and assess the patient together with the family, if needed
  • Determine a treatment plan with the team at Children’s Health
  • Retain baby at the home hospital or transfer to Children’s Health for Level IV NICU care

From the division chief

Dear Colleagues,

Even after more than 30 years as a neonatologist, a baby’s in utero development, birth and growth are still awe-inspiring. My colleagues and I work collaboratively with subspecialists, research scientists and transport teams to give every baby the very best start in life. That commitment is what inspired me to come to Children’s Health and UT Southwestern 14 years ago with the vision of building the world’s most comprehensive, technologically advanced and highest quality Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine program. This includes the first TeleNICU program in Texas, which has grown to include nine partner hospitals. We are proud to work with a highly skilled and compassionate team of neonatal and pediatric sub-specialists who share the common goal of saving lives for lifetimes. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to work collaboratively with your team.

-- Rashmin Savani, M.B., Ch.B., division chief of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at Children’s Health and professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern
