Biography

Christopher Newton, M.D., Ph.D., is a Pediatrician at Children’s HealthSM. His care philosophy is to help kids build healthy lifestyles and to promote physical, cognitive and emotional wellness.

“Modern medicine has many incredible tools to treat a wide range of illnesses, but many of these are unnecessary when kids have proper physical activity, nutrition and sleep,” he says.

“Helping kids build healthy habits in these areas from a young age is a major goal of my patient care.”

Dr. Newton earned his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern. He then completed his residency in pediatrics at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas/UT Southwestern.

“My combined training in medical school and graduate school (working in the laboratory of Nobel Prize winner Tom Sudhof) gave me a unique understanding of the intersection of science and medicine,” he says. “This perspective is extremely valuable in interpreting the constant advances in medical science and counseling parents to make the best healthcare decisions for their children.”

Dr. Newton has over 20 years of experience as a pediatrician and is deeply passionate about caring for kids.

“Pediatrics gives me a unique opportunity to connect with families on a personally meaningful level,” he says. “Partnering with parents to develop positive parenting practices from the earliest ages allows me to have a major, lifelong impact on a child's wellness.”

Outside of work, Dr. Newton enjoys spending time with his four adult children, staying physically active (swimming, biking and running), taking his dogs on long walking adventures, reading about history, and watching college football.
