CGM alarms
Are your CGM alarms actually waking you up?
If you've ever woken up and realized a glucose alarm had been going off for a while — or found out your child slept through one — you are not alone. In February 2025, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
warned that smartphone settings and updates can interfere with safety alerts from diabetes devices, including CGMs, insulin pumps and automated insulin delivery systems. Focus modes, app permissions, battery-saving settings, Bluetooth accessories, volume settings and phone software updates can all affect whether an alarm is delivered or heard.
For families managing Type 1 diabetes, this is not just annoying. It is a safety issue worth checking this week.
