Clinical Trial

Assessment of the impact of transcatheter stenting of aortic coarctation on the left ventricular afterload and work using left ventricular pressure volume loops

  • Not accepting healthy volunteers
  • UTSW Principal Investigator: SURENDRANATH REDDY VEERAM REDDY

summary

Patients referred for elective cardiac catheterization and stent therapy for coarctation of aorta who consent to participate in the study will have a one-time10-20 minute assessment that will take place during the standard of care catheterization procedure for coarctation stenting. There will be no follow up.

objective

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand the effects of stent therapy of coarctation of the aorta on the left ventricular afterload and mechanics by obtaining intracardiac pressures and volume using a special P-V loop catheter system. Hypothesis: Stent therapy of coarctation of the aorta does not result in normalization of left ventricular afterload and work despite adequate relief of anatomical narrowing and pressure gradients.
