Rehabilitation and Therapy Services

Rehabilitation and Therapy Services is proud to partner with Physical, Occupational, and Speech-Language graduate programs across the United States by participating in the clinical education of students who are the future of our chosen professions.

About Rehabilitation and Therapy Clinical Experiences

  • Students are paired with 1 or 2 clinical instructors at one of our locations as follows:
    • Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine
    • Medical Center of Dallas Acute Care Services
    • Our Children’s House Inpatient Rehabilitation
    • Specialty Center Allen
    • Specialty Center Cityville Southwestern Medical District
    • Specialty Center Grapevine
    • Specialty Center Preston
    • Specialty Center Richardson
    • Specialty Center Rockwall
    • Specialty Center Waxahachie
  • Students can indicate a preferred setting/location, but no guarantees can be made as it is impossible to predict staffing availability months in advance
  • Students will have opportunities to observe in other settings and locations contingent upon their performance
  • Students are required to 1) complete a project (devoting 15-20 hours) during their clinical experience/practicum. 2) participate in a mock job interview
  • Student Selection and Onboarding Process

    1. Students must provide a current resume with a cover letter according to the following guidelines:
      1. The resume (limit to 2 pages) must include past or upcoming clinical experiences/practicums or any previous experiences in a therapy setting.
      2. Cover letter (limit to 1 page, 10-point font minimum). The cover letter should address the following: reason for seeking a clinical experience at Children’s Health; experience with children outside of the professional program; expected learning experiences at Children’s Health; career aspirations
      3. The student’s academic program must forward the resume and cover letter to the corresponding student coordinator via email by the deadline. Check with the discipline-specific student coordinator for the deadlines.
    2. After reviewing the cover letter and resume, an interview will be extended to qualified students. Clinical placement is contingent upon successful interview. The interview will also be used to determine best fit for clinical instructor and location assignments.
    3. Selected students will receive email communication asking them to complete and return a Student Request Form.
    4. Four to six weeks, prior to the start date, students will receive an email from Student Services outlining all required documentation/education that will need to be returned and completed prior to starting their clinical experience/practicum.
  • Student Orientation

    • Students spend their first morning in Orientation with the Clinical Educator at the Dallas campus.  They will report to their clinical instructor in the afternoon or next day.
    • Detailed orientation information will be emailed to students 2 weeks prior to their start date.
