Biography

Courtney Derderian, M.D., is an anesthesiologist at Children’s Health℠ and an Associate Professor at UT Southwestern. She specializes in anesthesia for plastic and craniofacial surgery, sedation, pain management and airway management.  

She earned her medical degree from The University of Virginia School of Medicine. Dr. Derderian completed residency training in anesthesiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and her fellowship training in pediatric anesthesiology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Dr. Courtney Derderian

Dr. Derderian is the President-Elect of the Pediatric Craniofacial Collaborative Group and the primary investigator for the Pediatric Craniofacial Collaborative Group. Children with craniofacial abnormalities face unique risks during surgery and while under anesthesia. As part of these groups, Dr. Derderian works with hospitals across the country to improve care for these children.

Dr. Derderian is the Medical Director of Institutional Procedural Sedation at Children’s Health. She participates in research to uncover new approaches that improve the outcomes of children undergoing anesthesia. Her research also studies ways to lower risks associated with sedation and general anesthesia. 

Dr. Derderian lives in Dallas with her husband, Dr. Christopher Derderian, a plastic surgeon at Children’s Health, her two young daughters and her golden retriever puppy named Blue. Her hobbies include party planning, room mom duties, fundraising for the American Cancer Society, Women’s Auxiliary and the Ronald McDonald House.
