Biography

Abbie Smith, M.D., is a Pediatrician at Children’s Health℠ with special interests in caring for children with Down syndrome and developmental differences. She strives to create a welcoming environment where families feel heard, supported and comfortable asking questions.

“I love being part of a child and family’s journey, watching them grow and develop, and celebrating their milestones whenever they may happen,” Dr. Smith says. “Primary care allows me to celebrate the exciting moments with families, while also being a source of support when things are challenging or uncertain.”

Dr. Smith earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She completed her pediatric internship and residency at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. She began her career caring for children in the Children’s Health Emergency Department before transitioning to primary care.

“I love building the kind of trust that allows families to feel comfortable asking me anything,” she says. “I want my patients and their parents to know that they will be heard without judgment and that I will be there to help them navigate whatever comes next. To me, that trust is one of the greatest privileges of being a pediatrician.” 

Dr. Smith is actively involved in the Down syndrome community and has a nonprofit organization that supports new families and provides education to medical professionals.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, exploring new places and seeing movies. She is active in her local church and enjoys staying active, often training for her next race.
