What is a Pediatric Penile Torsion?

Pediatric penile torsion is a fairly common congenital (present at birth) condition that can affect any male baby. This condition causes the penis to appear to be rotated – or twisted – on its axis. Almost always, this twist occurs to the left (counter-clockwise). Penile torsion can range from mild to severe and has not been shown to affect sexual function or reproduction.

What are the signs and symptoms of a Pediatric Penile Torsion?

A rotated or twisted penis typically causes no other symptoms.

What are the causes of a Pediatric Penile Torsion?

Penile torsion occurs when the skin and connective tissue of the penis do not form properly in the womb.
