Do I need a referral?

Yes, if your insurance requires a referral to visit a specialist.

How long will the first appointment last?

Because the Children’s Health℠Pain Management Center is multidisciplinary, the first visit will take 4 – 5 hours. You will be seen by the physician & nurse practitioner, the pediatric psychologist, and physical therapist and then we will have a group meeting to discuss the plan for your child. Please arrive at 8 AM to ensure the appointment runs smoothly.

Will I need a follow up appointment?

Most children will need follow up appointments.

Do I need to get authorization for an injection/block?

We will get the authorization, although we may need additional information from you to do so.

Will my child need an injection or block?

Injections and blocks are only one of several options. Your child may receive surgery, medication or observation.

Do I need to bring my child to the appointment?


What do I need to bring to the appointment?

  • Any films
  • Disks
  • Completed new patient forms
  • A referral
  • Co-payment
  • Your child's pediatrician or primary care physician contact information

How do I pay for my child's visit?

We accept cash, check and credit cards, as well as most insurance and Medicaid.

Will my primary care doctor be notified about my child's visit?

Yes, after every visit we send a clinic letter to your child's primary care physician, detailing the appointment and recommendations for treatment and follow-up.

Do you accept out-of-state and out-of-network insurance?

Yes, although your insurance may not include us in their coverage.

What are your office hours?

The office is open from 9:00 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday and Thursdays. We see new patients on Mondays and follow up patients on Thursdays.

Who do I contact in an emergency?

Please go to an emergency room or an urgent care center for assistance after hours.

How do I refill a prescription?

Prescriptions are refilled during office hours. Your child will need to have an appointment scheduled if the prescription is for pain medication. For other medications (like Neurontin/gabapentin), please call during business hours (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM) and your prescription will be called in to a pharmacy of your choice.
