My name is Madison and I am 18 years old. Seven years ago in April of 2007 I came to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas seeking treatment for an extreme, undiagnosed pain in my left femur. A physician at another hospital referred me to you after doing all he could with no results. My family and I came to Children’s praying for an answer.
Soon after we met with you, everything started to come together. You were able to diagnose the pain as osteomyelitis, a deep infection that would require surgery. I soon underwent a bone biopsy of the femur under your care to rid my leg of the infection. After years of endless pain with no answers, my world finally started looking up.
Although the recovery was rough, once I was able to walk again the pain never came back. I want to express to you that you and your medical team are an answered prayer. My parents and I will always be grateful for the work you’ve done in my life and the difference you’ve made to me.
Because of you, I was able to be a kid for once and play and have fun rather than spending my time in hospitals. At age 11, I was not fully aware of my condition and my situation. Over the years I’ve realized how serious my case was and I’ve only become more and more thankful that I had a doctor like you that changed my life.
As a young woman looking back, I wanted to say thank you. Thank you for the work you did in my life and in the lives of so many deserving children. I don’t even want to think about what my life would be like if I hadn’t come to Children’s and received your care. To this day I am pain-free! Last week I graduated from Marcus High School in Flower Mound and this fall I will be a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin. I am majoring in Human Development and Family Sciences to become a child life specialist so I can help kids who are just like I once was. You have inspired me to make a difference in children’s lives.
You gave me so much hope and I thank God for providing doctors like yourself that touch so many lives. I hope that one day I can give hope to patients as you have for me. God bless you!
