David Weakley

David Weakley, M.D., is chief of the Clinical Service of Ophthalmology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Dr. Weakley completed an internship in internal medicine at Galveston, then a residency in ophthalmology at Parkland Memorial Hospital and a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He is a member of the American Orthoptic Council and on the board of editors of the Journal of AAPOS, the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

Yu-Guang He

Yu-Guang He, M.D., specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of vitreoretinal disorders, both acute and chronic in nature. He earned his medical degree at the Tongji Medical University School of Medicine in China. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, as well as fellowships there and at University of Washington Affiliated Hospitals. He remains fascinated by ophthalmology and the extent to which eye disease oftentimes involves more than the body’s visual system.

R. Hogan

R. Nick Hogan, M.D., Ph.D., earned his medical degree at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and completed his residency in ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he also completed a fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology. Dr. Hogan also completed a fellowship in ophthalmic pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital and one in ophthalmic pathology and ocular oncology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

Kamel Itani

Kamel Itani, M.D., earned his medical degree at American University in Beirut, where he completed his internship in internal medicine and residency in ophthalmology. Dr. Itani then completed a fellowship in oculoplastic surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, one in ophthalmology at University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. He then furthered his education with a residency in opthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Steven Verity

Steven Verity, M.D., earned his medical degree at Louisiana State University and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Dr. Verity then completed a two-year fellowship in cornea/external disease and refractive surgery at the Saint Louis University Eye Institute. He served as a principal investigator of the Food and Drug Administration clinical trial of the Intacs intrastromal corneal ring through all phases of the trial, where he contributed greatly to the development of the procedure. He has developed new surgical instrumentation for performing corneal transplantation and LASIK surgery and is a patent holder of other refractive surgery devices. Dr. Verity's areas of interest include refractive surgery, corneal tissue preservation and transplantation.

Serena Wang

Serena Wang, M.D., earned her medical degree at Kunming Medical College in China and completed her internship in anesthesia and residency in ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Wang specializes in pediatric eye disease treatment and surgery, with a special interest in pediatric cataract and strabismus, a misalignment of the eyes. She is also engaged in pediatric cataract surgery clinical research and supervises pediatric ophthalmology clinical research by residents and fellows.

Jess Whitson

Jess T. Whitson, M.D., completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a residency in ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Whitson went on to a yearlong glaucoma fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta. Dr. Whitson is board-certified in ophthalmology and has been an associate examiner with the American Board of Ophthalmology since 2005. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has been a lead investigator in several clinical trials to treat ocular hypertension.
