Ralph DeBerardinis

Dr. Ralph John DeBerardinis is director of the Division of Pediatric Genetics and Metabolism. He earned his medical degree and doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania. He then became the first trainee in the combined residency program in pediatrics and medical genetics at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, receiving several awards for teaching and clinical care and ultimately achieving board certification in pediatrics, medical genetics and clinical biochemical genetics.

Mary Carlin

Mary Carlin, M.D., earned her medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine, completed her residency in neurology and pediatrics in Florida and completed her fellowship in genetics at the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics.

Garrett Gotway

Garrett Gotway, M.D., Ph.D., earned his medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he also completed his internship and residency in pediatrics. He went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric genetics at Children's Health℠/UT Southwestern. D Magazine named him one of the Best Pediatric Specialists in 2015.

Angela E. Scheuerle, M.D.

Angela Scheuerle

Angela E. Scheuerle, M.D., graduated from University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, completed her residency in pediatrics at University of Cincinnati Children's Medical Center, and completed her fellowship in medical genetics at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital. She has also completed a fellowship in Clinical Ethics at the University of Chicago. In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Scheuerle has worked with the Texas Department of State Health Services Birth Defects Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch since 1994. This Branch operates the Texas Birth Defect Registry, an active state surveillance system that monitors birth prevalence of congenital anomalies and genetic conditions.

Luis Umana

Dr. Luis Umaña graduated from Universidad Colegio Mayor de Nuestra Señora Del Rosario Facultad de Medicina in Colombia, completed his residency in medical genetics at St. Barnabas Hospital in Pediatrics/Baylor College of Medicine and completed his fellowship in medical biochemical genetics at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital.
