Program Highlights

We appreciate that your baby and his or her delivery and neonatal care needs are unique. Our goal is to provide you with a personalized experience.

  • Convenience: Our dedicated FETAL care coordinators arrange for you to meet with all of the specialties that may be involved in your baby’s care, all in one appointment.
  • Seamless care: From prenatal planning to expert care in our Level IV NICU (neonatal intensive care unit), a large team of experts works together to give your baby the best possible care.
  • Support for your family: From answering questions to helping you access community resources, we’re always just a phone call away.

We’ve designed our FETAL Center as a comfortable, adult-centered environment where expectant parents can discuss their baby’s condition and future care needs. Features of the FETAL Center include:

  • A separate, private entrance
  • Comfortable furnishings and adult décor to create a spa-like atmosphere
  • Complimentary snacks and beverages
  • Complimentary valet parking
  • Consult rooms that are relaxing and free of medical equipment
  • Private restrooms located within our suite

Expert Care

Part of what makes our program unique is our team approach to care. On a regular basis, the entire clinical team gathers to discuss complex cases. This group of nearly 50 fetal and neonatal specialists represents a level of expertise on par with the nation’s top programs. Members of your baby’s care team may include:

  • FETAL Care Coordinators: Our nurse navigators are with you every step of the way. From welcoming you to our program to accompanying you during consultation and answering questions about your baby’s care, you’ll always have a familiar person just a phone call away.
  • Neonatologists: All of the UTSW neonatologists at Children’s Health are Board Certified and and experienced in prenatal counseling. This assures meticulous attention to detail in planning and delivering lifesaving care.
  • Radiologists: UT Southwestern is home to one of the country’s leading fetal MRI experts. With experience reading thousands of MRIs, we offer a level of accuracy few centers can match.
  • Subspecialists: From neurology to cardiology, your baby has access to any pediatric specialty he or she could possibly need. These experts also conduct novel research in their field. This helps your baby receive the best possible care.

What to Expect

In addition to delivering the best care for your baby, our goal is to offer expert guidance and individualized support so you know what to expect every step of the way. Unlike most programs and facilities, our families receive education and treatment plans including delivery and postnatal management, and all the caregivers are brought together in one place instead of the family going to different physicians.

  • Planning your visit to the Fetal Center: In addition to reaching out to you by phone, you’ll receive a letter in the mail telling you everything you need to know about your upcoming visit.
  • Your baby’s prenatal conference: Here, we explain your baby’s condition and treatment plan in detail. We take time to answer important questions, such as what to expect in the delivery room and how long and when you can hold your baby after birth. Your visit may also include a tour of the NICU to see the space and meet the providers on our care team.
  • Neonatal care: Working with our award-winning transport program, we assure an appropriate, safe transfer from your baby’s birth hospital to Children’s Health. Putting your baby’s personalized treatment plan into place are the renowned neonatologists of UT Southwestern. From ECMO to surgery, we expertly deliver lifesaving care.
  • Follow up care: We facilitate any necessary specialized follow-up care after your baby is born. Planning for this is tailored to your baby’s needs and begins with your first consultation so you know exactly what to expect. Once your baby is home, we provide specialized outpatient care through our Thrive Program.
