Training Programs

The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program sponsored by UT Southwestern Medical Center and housed both at the Medical School and Children’s Health℠ is amongst the most well-respected programs in the nation. We train three to four fellows per year to become future leaders in this specialty with a vision to encourage our future colleagues to take leadership positions in clinical care, teaching and research either here in Dallas or at nationally renowned institutions.

Pediatric hematology-oncology fellows are fully trained pediatricians who spend a minimum of three years receiving additional training in the pediatric hematology-oncology subspecialty. The first year is devoted mainly to clinical care, becoming familiar with diagnostic procedures, the subspecialty's laboratory tools, and existing and planned treatment protocols. The second and subsequent years of fellowship are devoted primarily to clinical or laboratory research.

Over the last several years our fellows have enjoyed spectacular success, in grant and scholarship support from local and national physician scientist training programs and in recognition of their academic potential as participants in the American Society of Hematology Clinical Research Training Institute (CRTI) and subsequent success as scholars in UT Southwestern's Clinical Science Masters Program.
