3 simple rules for a safe car seat
Injury Prevention experts from Children’s Health℠ give you easy steps to ensuring your child’s car seat is properly installed for a safe, comfy ride.

Have you ever wondered if your child is in the correct car seat or if it is properly installed? Properly secured car seats and being in the appropriate car seat can reduce injuries.

Here are a few tips to consider when installing and thinking of the next car seat for your child.

  1. Right Seat. This is an easy one. Check the label on your car seat to make sure it’s appropriate for your child’s age, weight and height. Like milk, your car seat has an expiration date.
  2. Right Direction. Keep your child in a rear-facing car seat until at least age 2. When he or she outgrows the seat, move your child to a forward-facing car seat.
  3. See a Technician. Based on our car seat fitting station data, 78% of children in North Texas are riding in car seats with at least one installation error. Caregivers have the most problems securing the car seat to the vehicle with the seat belt, and properly using the harness.
