If your child is a sports player, chances are that he is in full swing with practices right now. If he hasn't visited the pediatrician yet, be sure to make an appointment for a physical evaluation. While sudden cardiac death in an otherwise apparently healthy teen is a rare occurrence, it must be addressed to identify who is at risk.

Every Children's patient who survived after a sudden cardiac event, was defibrillated by an automatic external defibrillator (AED) before arrival. The Children's heart team educates communities, schools and athletic trainers about the importance of AEDs.
