The physicians in our directory are members of a Children’s Health hospital medical staff or are credentialed by Children’s Health for managed care participation. Some physicians are employed by Children’s Health, some are employed elsewhere, and some maintain an independent medical practice. There is no fee for being listed in our directory. The physicians populating your search results are selected based on the criteria that you provide and are then listed alphabetically. If a physician is no longer on a Children’s Health medical staff or participating in a Children’s Health managed care agreement, he/she would not be eligible to be listed in our directory.

Wayne Bowman, M.D., is an ophthalmologist at Children’s Health. He was one of the first surgeons in the nation to gain experience in LASIK when the procedure was initially being tested by the FDA, and he has stayed on top of the most leading-edge vision correction techniques ever since.

The patients are the focus of what we do. They are our world, our family. It’s a privilege to interact with and take care of them.
Dr. Bowman

Dr. Bowman received his medical degree from the University of Missouri Medical School. He stayed on at Missouri to complete his residency in internal medicine before completing the Lancaster Course in Ophthalmology, which is the oldest and largest ophthalmic educational course in the world designed for residents-in-training and practicing ophthalmologists..

A caring and compassionate doctor, Dr. Bowman has been recognized by D magazine as a Best Doctor and Texas Monthly as a Super Doctor for many consecutive years, Dr. Bowman says it’s all about the patients for him, every day.

“The patients are the focus of what we do. They are our world, our family,” he says. “It’s a privilege to interact with and take care of them.”

Dr. Bowman is a frequent lecturer on a variety of ophthalmologic topics. He also is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Dallas County Medical Society, the Texas Ophthalmological Association, and the American Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, among other professional organizations.

Dr. Bowman became well known in 2009 for taking care of one patient in particular, when he performed cataract surgery on a 47-year-old gorilla named Timbo at the Dallas Zoo. The surgery was a success, and Timbo lived out her last few years being able to clearly see her gorilla friends and visitors to the zoo.

While that was a unique experience, cataract surgery on humans is continually gratifying, Dr. Bowman says, especially as technology constantly improves, enabling patients to recover so quickly and have almost immediate vision improvement.
