Biography

Michel Baum, M.D., is a pediatric nephrologist at Children’s Health℠ who specializes in diagnosing, treating and managing disorders of the kidney and urinary tract. Dr. Baum’s clinical interests include kidney failure and transplant, continuous renal replacement, tubular disorders and complex conditions such as duplex kidney. He is a Professor of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine (with tenure) and the Sarah M. and Charles E. Seay Chair in Pediatric Research at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Baum earned his medical degree at University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in pediatrics at Yale-New Haven Hospital and his fellowship training in pediatric nephrology at Children's Renal Center, University of California San Francisco. He also completed a research fellowship there, laying the groundwork for a career in research. His research interests include epithelial transport, renal development and tubular disorders. 

Dr. Baum is a recognized expert in pediatric nephrology. He has published dozens of textbook chapters and serves as a reviewer and editor for numerous medical journals. He has more than 150 research publications to his name.

He has been named a Super Doctor by Texas Monthly and a Best Pediatric Specialist by D Magazine.
