Kathy Thompson, DNP, APRN, CPNP, is a nurse practitioner at Children’s Health℠ Pediatric Group St. Phillips who provides comprehensive primary care for children of all ages.
Kathy received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree and Masters of Science degree as Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from The University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing. She is board certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.
As young as age 5, Kathy knew she would practice medicine. “My Great Aunt Eliza Jones was a Nurse Midwife for Matagorda County, Texas, and I used to help my grandfather take care of her in her older years,” she says. Her experience includes 18 years as a pediatric nurse practitioner, two of them with Children’s Health℠.
Kathy’s clinical research areas of interest are asthma and sleep apnea in pediatric patients. For her doctoral research study, she designed and created “A Color-Coded Educational Bilingual Pictorial Pediatric Asthma Action Plan.” This resource for families was designed to remove barriers that prevent patients from receiving and utilizing written asthma action plans, as well as help reduce asthma attacks, improve asthma outcomes and reduce school absences. She has received numerous awards including:

- Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society
- Phi Kappa Phi, Academic Honor Society at The University of Texas at Arlington.
In her free time, Kathy enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, watching movies, singing and going to the park.
