Ashish S. Patel, M.D. specializes in caring for children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). He is a gastroenterologist at Children’s Health℠ and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Patel directs the Southwestern Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program at Children’s Health, which brings together pediatric gastroenterologists, nurses, a registered dietitian and a child psychologist to care for children with IBD. The program’s team approach has helped patients 8 out of 10 patients achieve remission.

Dr. Patel also leads support groups for children with IBD and their families and is actively involved in community activities. He serves on the Medical Advisory Board for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America and as the medical director for Camp Oasis, a camp for children with IBD.

In his research, Dr. Patel explores key questions about IBD, including how it develops and the best ways to treat it.

Dr. Patel earned his medical degree from Texas A&M College of Medicine. He completed a pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a specialty fellowship in pediatric IBD that was awarded and funded by the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America.

He was named 2018 Physician of the Year by the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
