Skin problems in children can include the common – like rashes, warts and birth marks – and the complex. It’s that breadth of diversity that drew Dr. Adnan Mir to pediatric dermatology.

“From the simple to the complex and from the benign to the malignant, there is so much we can do to make children’s lives better,” he says. “And there’s still so much about skin conditions that we don’t know. There are puzzles to be solved, and that really appeals to me.”

Because childhood skin disorders affect not only a child’s health but also his or her outlook on life, Dr. Mir enjoys making a difference in a child’s physical and mental wellbeing.

“Seeing a smile on the face of a child who had once been in tears over their skin condition gives me a great deal of satisfaction,” he says.

Working at Children’s Health℠ gives Dr. Mir the opportunity to help inform other care providers about the diagnosis, treatment and long-term care of skin conditions in children. He also appreciates being a part of a team that is dedicated to working together for the best outcomes for each patient.

“The staff at Children’s is amazing. The nurses and medical assistants are extremely caring and energetic, and everyone here constantly goes beyond what is expected of them,” he says.

Dr. Mir is certified by the American Board of Dermatology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine internship at Georgetown University Medical Center; a dermatology residency at New York University Medical Center; a fellowship in pediatric dermatology at Northwestern University; and a dermatopathology fellowship at New York University Medical Center.

He is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Society for Pediatric Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatopathology and the Pediatric Dermatology Research Alliance. He is an assistant professor of dermatology at UT Southwestern Medical Center with research interests in pediatric tumors.

Dr. Mir enjoys sports and tries to get to Ohio State football games whenever possible. He also enjoys sea kayaking and has kayaked on three oceans and two seas in eight different countries.
