Step 2: Student Volunteer Requirements
Volunteering at Children's Medical Center requires thorough medical screening for the safety of everyone. These requirements include but are not limited to:
Proof of Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) or a positive blood antibody titer*
Varicella vaccinations (2 doses) or proof of a positive blood antibody titer*
Tetanus immunization (must be within the last 10 years)
During flu season, proof of seasonal Influenza vaccination
If accepted into the program, (a) provide proof of either two negative TB skin tests within the past 12 months or (b) one Quantiferon Gold Blood Test. If the student has tested positive for TB the positive test along with a recent chest x-ray with documentation that the disease is not present is required.
Costs associated with medical requirements are the responsibility of the volunteer.
*The antibody titer is a blood test that measures your immune system's ability to protect against a disease or infection.
To participate in the Student Volunteer Program, volunteers must also meet the following criteria:
Student living in the Dallas/Fort Worth area must, register and attend an Information Session.
Commit to serving a regularly scheduled volunteer schedule.
Be a minimum of 16 years of age by the beginning of the session you plan to apply to.
If 18 years of age or older, consent to a criminal background check completed by Children's Medical Center.
Purchase a volunteer uniform ranging from $20-$30
Adhere to the volunteer code of ethics
Successfully complete the necessary paperwork, meet health requirements and attend General Orientation.
