Community Volunteer Program

Children's Medical Center has a number of opportunities available for community volunteers. From group projects to individual support, Children's is always looking for people who will make a difference in the lives of the patients we serve. Our community volunteer program is perfect for corporations, schools, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and faith groups who want to get involved.

Due to patient confidentiality and infection control, donated items are distributed by Children's staff. Unfortunately, individuals and groups are not allowed to distribute donated items to patients.

Help Keep Kids Safe

Children’s is committed to doing whatever it takes to keep children safe from traumatic injury. Every year Injury Prevention Specialists teach children how to swim, to wear helmets when riding their bikes, to use their car seats and seat belts when travelling in a vehicle and much, much more. We do it all in the name of safety! When considering your donation of art supplies or swim materials, please note that we can only accept unopened, unused, new items for our safety activities. Gifts cards are welcomed from Wal-Mart, Target and Michael’s and will be used to purchase supplies for our inpatient and outpatient community outreach activities.

To schedule your visit/delivery, please contact the Injury Prevention Department at 214-456-1870 and download the Safe Kids Wish List (PDF).

Give Toys

When considering your donation of a new gift or toy, please remember that sixty percent (60%) of our patients are under the age of 3 and that Children's Medical Center provides services to many teenagers, as well. Please note that only new stuffed animals may be accepted as donations due to infection control policies. Gift cards are also welcomed from Wal-Mart, Target and Toys R Us and will be used to purchase supplies and specific requests from patients.

To schedule your visit/delivery, please contact the Child Life/Child Development Office at Dallas Campus at 214-456-6280, Legacy Campus at 469-303-6280 or Southlake Campus at 817-724-0142 and download the Toy Wish List (PDF).

Family Resource Libraries

The Family Resource Libraries accept donations of new and gently used children's books. We have a particular need of Spanish books for all ages, from board books to Young Adult novels and non-fiction. New books are incorporated into the collections while gently used books are shared with outpatient areas. The libraries also welcome donations of recent magazines, no more than 6 months old, and magazine subscriptions.

For more information about how to give to the libraries, please contact Hannah Rutledge at 214-456-0222 or hannah.rutledge@childrens.com or Albi Calman at 469-303-7735 or albertine.calman@childrens.com.
