Surgery: Why Children's
As one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the nation, Children’s Medical Center is the only academic healthcare facility in North Texas dedicated exclusively to the comprehensive care of children from birth to age 18. It serves as the primary pediatric teaching and research facility for UT Southwestern and has more than 360,000 patient visits annually.
Pediatric surgeons at Children’s perform more than 20,000 surgeries a year among three locations:
- Children’s Medical Center Dallas
- Children’s Pavilion Surgery Center at Dallas
- Children’s Medical Center at Legacy, located in Plano, Texas.
Children’s focuses on keeping the patient family’s needs at the center of all we do. The hospital provides an array of support services to ensure your child’s surgery at Children’s is as comfortable as possible. These include:
- Child life specialists (professionals on staff who provide developmentally appropriate information to assist children in understanding and coping with the hospital environment)
- Social workers
- Translation services, including the MARTTI system (My Accessible Real-Time Trusted Interpreter: a two-way, digital video/audio communicator that allows families who speak a language other than English to converse live via web cam with a remote interpreter)
