Can I come earlier than scheduled?

Yes. The sleep technologist generally arrives around 6:30p.m. Although, you may have to wait in the reception area until they are ready to move you to your private room.

What if I am going to be late?

Call 214-456-2793 after 6:00 p.m. to let them know.

Should I still feed my child before coming?

Yes. However, avoid foods and drinks that may cause your child to have difficulty falling asleep, like sugars and caffeine.

Do I have to stay with my child overnight?

Yes. You should stay with your child at all times.

Can I bring other children to the study?

No. Each room is equipped with one bed and sleeping chair; one for the child being studied and one for the parent or caregiver.

Can I sleep in the same bed as my child?

It is not recommended, but it is allowed. If it becomes an issue then the sleep technologist may ask that you move to the other bed.

Do I still give my child medications?

The sleep technologist will not give any medication to your child. Please continue to follow your physician's recommendations for all prescribed medication.

Do you have TV and DVD/VCR player?

Feel free to bring your child's favorite VHS movie (not DVD, in the Dallas Center).

How long will the sleep study take?

It usually takes about 90 minutes to prepare your child for the sleep study. After the setup is completed, then the lights will be turned off and the study started. The study usually ends between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m.

What if I need to leave earlier?

If you would like to leave early, please let the sleep technologist know what time you would like to wake up.

Will the sleep study hurt my child?

The only discomfort that your child may feel is when tape is removed from the skin. It may feel like removing a band-aid. Your child may also find some of the wires and sensors uncomfortable but once asleep it usually goes away.

What if I need a school or work excuse?

Let the sleep technologist know and one will be given to you before you leave in the morning.
