Medical Psychiatric Conditions
Medical and technological advancements allow many children and adolescents with chronic illnesses to live long and healthy lives. However, many chronic illnesses and life prolonging interventions have an impact on the child's emotional, behavioral and cognitive function. The Center for Pediatric Psychiatry has a commitment and the expertise important to improve the quality of life of children with combined medical and psychiatric difficulties.
If needed mental health services for patients who enter Children's because of their medical needs are offered through the medical psychiatry service. Children may be seen at the hospital bedside or at a clinic visit by psychologists and psychiatrists who work closely with the child's care team. Because of the availability and expertise of medical subspecialists at Children's Medical Center, medically ill children who require mental health services may also receive care in the day treatment unit and the psychiatry inpatient services.
