Predoctoral Training Opportunities
Predoctoral Internship Training
Children's Medical Center is a site for the captive pre-doctoral psychology internship in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Program at UT Southwestern. Clinical interns receive training in a 12-month, 20-hour per week placement in one of the Psychological Services training sites at Children's. In recent years, interns have been placed in the inpatient unit, consult-liaison service, neuropsychology service and outpatient clinics. Interns are selected on the basis of their interest and previous training through discussion between the psychologists on staff at Children's and the program personnel.
Cultural Diversity Scholarship
Children's Medical Center offers a scholarship for first year clinical psychology students at UT Southwestern who are committed to serving underserved children. The scholar receives exposure to multiple clinical and research programs at Children's Medical Center, particularly pertaining to the care of minority and underserved pediatric populations. Psychologists working at Children's are faculty members in the Psychology Division at UT Southwestern, and are involved in teaching and research as well as clinical care. Each scholar's program is individually determined by the Training Director and the appropriate faculty members at Children's Medical Center. The program offers flexibly and allows students to work 10 – 15 hours a week at Children's.
The Cultural Diversity Scholarship is granted to one member of the incoming first year class in the APA-approved Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Program at UT Southwestern. Applications are invited at the time interview invitations are sent to applicants, typically in the early spring preceding the academic year of entry.
