Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery: What to Expect

Craniofacial Multi-Disciplinary Team Clinic Appointment

In this section, you will learn more about what to expect before, during, and after your team appointment as well as some common concerns.

Before your appointment

You will need to prepare to bring any images and/or reports related to your child’s diagnosis to the team appointment.
Block out at least 2 ½ hours out of your schedule for your appointment.

A nurse will contact you to collect some specific information related to your child’s craniofacial surgery diagnosis to better prepare the providers for your child’s visit.

During your appointment

You will need to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to allow for completion of consents, photos, and vital signs to be taken.

Check in at registration on the 1st floor of the Pavilion at Children’s Medical Center Dallas.

After you register on the 1st floor, take the elevators up to the 4th floor and arrive at F4200 – The Fogelson Plastic Surgery and Craniofacial Center
Check in at the front desk of the clinic where you will be given consents to complete.

Prior to being placed in an exam room, your child will be weighed and measured.  A medical photographer will take photos of your child for the medical record to provide visual documentation of your child’s condition at each step of the process.

Once your child has been placed in an exam room, there will be a number of providers that will visit with your child one at a time all while you remain in the exam room.  You will be visited at this time by members of the Craniofacial Multi-Disciplinary Team.  Members of the team include:

After your appointment

After the clinic is over, the team meets to discuss their assessment and discuss surgical options.  Afterwards, you will be contacted via telephone with the plan of care and appointments directly related to that plan.  You will also receive a letter developed by the team coordinator that will outline what all is needed for your child.

Each provider that sees your child, will document in the patient’s medical record their assessment of the child’s condition.  A copy of this assessment will be sent to your child’s primary care provider.
