Neonatal ICU: Transport

The Transport Team at Children's serves as a resource to outside facilities when their patients require specialized care. Our transport services will transfer neonatal and pediatric patients by air or ground and can be arranged locally, nationally or internationally.

When requesting a neonatal transport, you will be connected to a Children's neonatologist who will provide on-going medical advice while the transport team is mobilized. All transport team members are trained in the care of neonatal patients and can manage a wide range of needs. Team members are adept in advanced airway management and are proficient at stabilization, vascular access and medication administration to ensure a safe transport.

To arrange a transport, please call the Access Center at Children's: 888-730-DOCS (888-730-3627)

Fetal neonatal program

Children's is proud to offer a comprehensive and fully integrated Fetal-Neonatal Program. This unique program focuses on diagnosis, complications and management of the high-risk fetus. In addition to neonatologists, the Fetal-Neonatal Team includes perinatologists, radiologists, general and subspecialty surgeons and pediatricians.

The goal of this program is to provide each family with expert subspecialty opinions from a multidisciplinary team. This collaborative effort ensures a comprehensive approach to the development of a treatment plan and optimizes medical outcomes, especially for those infants with anomalies or at high risk for long-term disabilities.

Prior to delivery, expectant parents will meet with the physicians who will care for their baby after birth. The Fetal-Neonatal Team will provide a detailed plan of care for the infant, and parents are given the opportunity to tour the areas where their infant will be admitted. Parents are also introduced to members of the family support team, including nursing, occupational and physical therapists, child life specialists, social workers, chaplains and language translators, as appropriate.
