Description of services:
Provides diagnosis and treatment for infants and children with acute hand injuries and post traumatic injuries to the hand as well as non-traumatic conditions such as cysts, masses, nerve conditions and congenital deformities. In-house occupational therapy also is provided by a registered occupational therapist.

Procedures performed or problems diagnosed and treated:
- Congenital hand problems (polydactyly, syndactyly, radial club hand, thumb absence)
- Microsurgery
- Nerve palsy, stroke-related palsy, brachial plexus injury
- Cerebral palsy
- Hand, wrist and finger fractures
- Distal radius fractures
- Tendon and nerve lacerations
- Hand lacerations
- Amputation
- Near amputation
- Reimplantation
- Splinting, casting, dressing changes and suture removal
- Nail-bed injury
- Burn, wound and scar management
- Secondary hand reconstruction
- Hand/wrist tumors
Information for referral sources:
- Pre-authorization is required by some insurance plans.
- To avoid unnecessary testing, have the family bring relevant medical records, test results and X-rays to the appointment.
- Diagnosis, evaluation and recommended treatment information is provided promptly to the referring physician.
Please provide the following when calling to schedule a patient for a diagnostic examination:
- Patient name and date of birth
- Probable diagnosis
- Insurance/referral information
- Physician clinical findings or symptoms which caused the patient to visit physician
- Results from other completed examinations

- The Hand Surgery clinic at Children's is staffed by board-certified plastic surgeons employed by UT Southwestern and on the medical staff at Children's.
- Occupational therapists are on staff to provide a continuum of care.
