Velopharyngeal Incompetence (VPI) Clinic
The Velopharyngeal Incompetence (VPI) Clinic at Children’s provides comprehensive evaluation to children with speech problems caused when the velopharynx, located in the back of the mouth, does not work properly.
Patients who visit the multidisciplinary VPI clinic will be evaluated by an ENT physician and a speech and language specialist.
The ENT team then will determine the best treatment plan for each child, which may involve intensive speech therapy at school, home or at Children’s Medical Center. Surgical options will be discussed, as needed.
