Sagittal Extended Strip: Matthew

Sagittal Craniosynostosis Top-250Matthew presented to the craniofacial team at 4 days of age, referred for evaluation of his head shape. His photos from that visit on the left show a significant narrowing of the middle and back portions of the head. Matthew’s skull was also significantly longer than normal from front to back. He was diagnosed with sagittal suture craniosynostosis. He underwent an extended strip craniectomy with postoperative helmeting at age 3 months. His one-year postoperative photos on the right demonstrate a significant improvement in the length of the skull. A normal height, width and a rounded shape to the back of the head also has been restored. The back of the skull is wider than the temple area, which is normal.
