Our residency program prides itself on being a tightly knit group who serve as friends and family when away from home for each other.  The program hosts many events in an effort to reinforce these relationships and provide opportunities for fun and relaxation.

Intern Welcome Picnic:  Early during orientation for our new interns, the program holds a welcome picnic at a local park.  Faculty, residents, and families come out for barbeque, games, snow cones, and most importantly, a chance to meet and welcome the incoming class of residents.

Annual Faculty vs. Resident Softball Game:  Hosted at a Dallas city park in the fall, this event draws faculty, residents, and families out for a friendly (though still competitive) game of slow-pitch softball.  Teams don matching jerseys for the game, and the winning team gets bragging rights for the remainder of the year.  After the game, everyone is invited to enjoy barbeque in the park.

Town, Clown, and Gown:  Three teams made up of residents, faculty, and community-based alumni compete in a jeopardy-style event that tests their knowledge of pediatric medicine, art and history, and pop culture.

Holiday Party:  Residents are given the night off with coverage provided by fellows and attendings to attend the holiday party in December.  Held in a banquet hall on the UTSW campus, residents get a chance to dress up, socialize, and have dinner with their colleagues, significant others, and faculty.

Spring Fling:  Our program director, Dr. McKinney, hosts a party at his home each spring where residents can come with their families to enjoy delicious snacks, swimming, and mingling.

End of the Year Party:  At the end of each academic year, the entire residency program gets together to celebrate our residents and their achievements, and to say good-bye to our graduating seniors.  The evening is held at the Botanical Gardens and includes dinner, awards, and slideshows, as well as dancing at the end of the evening.
