A Message from the Chief Nursing OfficerWelcome to the Nursing Web site at Children's Medical Center.
Since our beginnings as the Dallas Baby Camp in 1913, nurses at Children's Medical Center Dallas and Children's at Legacy in Plano have been committed to achieving the best possible patient care for the little ones given over to our charge.
Children's has been honored by U.S.News & World Report and Parents magazine as being one of the top pediatric hospitals in the country and has been designated as a Magnet™ hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Our mission — to make life better for children — is based on a philosophy of care that is patient- and family-centered.
It is modeled on our nurses' longstanding Shared Governance system, which clearly defines how the philosophy of patient care, the practice of patient care and the development of the professional practice environment inter-relate.
Additionally, the Professional Practice Model used at Children's incorporates strong collaborative relationships with the staff — from the physicians with whom nurses work closely in a team approach, to the housekeepers who help maintain the best environment for care.
This Web site is your opportunity to learn more about our philosophy of care, our nursing leadership team, educational opportunities, career pathways and more. As with any Web site, it is organic in nature and will grow as needed.
We look forward to our 100th anniversary, and to extending our mission with its exciting possibilities for our nurses.
Mary Stowe, RN, MS, NEA-BC
Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer
