James "Craig" Rowlett

November 30, 2010

James “Craig” Rowlett’s parents first took him to an emergency room near their home in Dallas, where physicians said the 10-year-old had a minor stomach issue and sent the family home. Three days later, on Nov. 29, 2007, the Rowletts rushed Craig to the Emergency Department at Children’s.

Craig's renal and respiratory systems were failing. He was resuscitated and immediately taken to the operating room, where Dr. Anne Fischer, pediatric surgeon, discovered Craig had a badly perforated appendix.

After two surgeries and four weeks in the Pediatric ICU, Craig was discharged the day after Christmas. Now 11, Craig has made a full recovery, and expects to be back in action again with the Seagoville Pitbulls in the fall of 2009.
