The Southwestern Center for Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease at Children's Medical Center Dallas is the only center of its kind in North Texas to offer a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis, treatment, education and research of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease.
The medical team is compromised of pediatric specialists in gastroenterology, nutrition, psychiatry, psychology, surgery, ostomy and wound healing, child life and social work will provide your child and your family with the individualized care necessary to handle a complex chronic illness.
With strong affiliations with other leaders in the field of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease throughout the country, the center will provide you and your child access to the latest and most comprehensive advances in diagnosis, prognosis, therapy and research.
Our affiliation with the Crohn's and Colitis Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center further extends our reach and allows for a smooth transition of care when your child moves to adulthood.

Dedicated Multidisciplinary IBD clinic is Tuesday from 8 a.m – 4 p.m.
Clinic is open 5 days a week, Monday thru Friday

What types of patients are seen in the inflammatory bowel disease center?
The team sees infants and children whose suffer from chronic recurring inflammation of the intestines. Conditions frequently seen include:
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease
- Crohn's Disease
- Ulcerative Colitis
- Indeterminate Colitis
Who will be in charge of my child while I am in the hospital?
The inpatient gastroenterologist will be in charge of the day-to-day care of your child while in hospital. The outpatient team wil be in contact with the inpatient medical team and will be aware of changes in your child's condition.
Who will I see as an outpatient?
The outpatient team consists of a gastroenterologist, nurse practitioner, dietitian, psychologist and nurse. If other members of the healthcare team are needed, then an appointment will be made in the appropriate clinic (surgery, social work, etc.).
My child was admitted to a hospital other than Children's, what should I do?
For continuity of care, we request that all admissions be at Children's Medical Center Dallas. If your child is admitted to another facility, please call our office. All efforts are made to transfer your child to a Children's location, if necessary.
Who should I call for questions regarding my child's feeds (formulas, diet or general nutrition)?
Our dietitians are available during your clinic visit, and also by phone during regular business hours.
What research is currently being conducted at our center?
Our center puts a strong emphasis on research as a tool to provide excellent care to your child. Current projects include epidemiology and natural history studies to better understand disease behavior. We are also involved in national studies sponsored by the NIH, CCFA and private organizations. We are part of a large multi center trial that is defining the quality of care children with inflammatory bowel disease today receive. We also have access to specific drug trials that allow patients with difficult or challenging disease courses, additional choices in their therapeutic options.
