Children’s provides annual $1.6 billion economic boost to regional economy
Children’s Medical Center has an annual impact of more than $1.6 billion to the regional economy, according to a new study prepared by the Center for Economic Development and Research at the University of North Texas.
The study showed that in addition to filling a critical niche in Dallas’ medical care cluster, Children’s is a significant contributor to the region’s economy in several areas.
Continuing operations at Children’s have an annual impact of more than $567 million on the local economy, supporting more than 7,500 permanent jobs that provide in excess of $424 million in income.
Additionally, the hospital’s operations boost regional property income from rents, royalties, dividends, and corporate profits by more than $85 million per year.
These factors, combined with investments in ongoing construction and expansion that will extend the physical footprint of Children’s beyond Dallas and into the northern suburbs with Children’s Medical Center at Legacy, lift the hospital’s overall impact to the regional economy to an estimated $1.6 billion.
Children’s Medical Center is one of the largest, private, not-for-profit pediatric healthcare providers in the nation. Through the hospital’s affiliation with UT Southwestern, Children’s is the only academic healthcare system in North Texas dedicated exclusively to the comprehensive care of children from birth to age 18.
Children’s Dallas, the first designated Level I trauma center for pediatrics in the Southwest, is licensed for 559 beds. Children’s at Legacy, which is opening this year in Plano, Texas, will better serve the northern region’s growing pediatric population.
Children’s makes life better for the patients it sees in almost 400,000 visits each year. View the following report for more information:
