Protect Your Family from Influenza A(H1N1)
Cover your face, wash your hands, use common sense

View swine flu videoThe influenza A(H1N1) virus is a respiratory disease that has symptoms similar to the regular human flu. Take precautions to help in preventing infections. Learn more at http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/.

The same measures you would take for any infectious disease (bacterial or viral) apply to influenza A(H1N1).

Influenza can be spread by coughing or sneezing, so it's important to use good etiquette when you cough or sneeze. That means:
  • Covering your nose and mouth with tissue or your sleeve when sneezing or coughing
  • Washing your hands thoroughly with soap & water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer after coughing or sneezing
  • Disposing of used tissues properly
  • Not touching your eyes, nose or mouth to avoid the spread of germs
Taking these precautions can help in preventing infections. However, if you or your child does develop flu-like symptoms, please visit your primary care provider to be tested. These symptoms include fever, muscle aches, sore throat and a nonproductive cough. Read more about influenza.
