The Nephrology team at Children's diagnoses and treats the full spectrum of kidney-related conditions and disorders. The department is one of the largest pediatric nephrology departments in the United States and the major healthcare provider for children with end stage renal disease (ESRD) in North Texas.
In addition to its physical consequences, renal failure may delay mental and social development in some children. That is why the Nephrology team, led by Drs. Michael Baum, Raymond Quigley, and Mouin Seikaly, emphasizes comprehensive patient care that addresses all aspects of growth and well-being. Each case is managed with a full team of expert caregivers from clinical nutrition, social work and nursing to pastoral care, child life, psychology and financial counseling.
The department's dialysis program, which includes a hemodialysis unit and a peritoneal dialysis training program, is one of the largest pediatric programs in the country. Since dialysis patients frequently miss school to receive treatments at the hospital, the department employees a hospital-based school teacher to make sure they don't fall behind in their class work.
