At Children's Medical Center

Cardiothoracic surgery

Cardiothoracic Surgery is a subspecialty that manages the structures of the chest and blood vessels of the body, including the heart and lungs. Together with a highly skilled team of cardiologists, intensivists and anesthesiologists, the cardiothoracic surgeons on the Children's medical staff are dedicated to treating children with congenital heart diseases.

Our cardiac surgery program performs more than 500 total cardiac surgical procedures and more than 300 open-heart procedures each year. To meet the extraordinary demand of one of the most active cardiac centers in the nation, we recently added a new 22-bed inpatient floor dedicated to cardiac care and cardiac surgery patients. The center also features a 17-bed state-of-the-art pediatric cardiac intensive care unit, which is the only one in North Texas staffed full-time with cardiac intensivists.
