Children's benefits from annual parade

Children of all ages got a special glimpse of Santa's workshop, the elves and toys on Dec. 6 when the 21st annual Neiman Marcus Adolphus Children's Parade presented by Capital One Bank took to the streets of downtown Dallas under crystal blue skies. Funds raised by the parade benefit the Child Life department at Children's Medical Center.

The event, which had the largest number of spectators ever — estimated at 350,000 to 400,000 — was nationally televised, giving viewers across the United States an opportunity to see familiar costumed characters, colorful floats, dazzling dancers, giant inflatable balloons and lots and lots of clowns. This year, Armed Forces Television also broadcast the event. The parade's local television sponsor is WFAA TV Channel 8, and Univision 23 televised the event for the Spanish-language audience.

The parade began in 1987 as a gift to the children of Dallas from The Adolphus hotel. Known as the "Miracle on Commerce Street," it has evolved into a national display of holiday hopes and dreams and a tradition for families nationwide.
