The Children's Trust

History

The Children's Trust was formed in the fall of 2002 with the purpose of developing future philanthropic leaders for Children's Medical Center. It was founded by two dedicated couples, Sheila and Dave Beuerlein and Betty and Brian Schultz, who had a history of supporting the Children's mission. Based on their leadership and direction, this close-knit organization fosters an understanding of the goals and strategic vision of Children's Medical Center through philanthropic, educational and social activities for community members who have a strong interest in children's healthcare.

With an understanding of the importance of consistent and sustained giving, The Trust designates a minimum of half of all annual membership dues to support critical areas of need throughout the hospital. In it first year, with a membership of more than 200, The Trust gave $31,600 to Children's.

Throughout the year, multiple educational opportunities are extended to The Trust. These exclusive educational opportunities allow members to experience an insider's view of the behind-the-scenes operations of a pediatric hospital. Through business and personal relationships within the community, well-connected Trust members provide a strong voice of advocacy and leadership for current pediatric health issues. The Trust is a valued member of the Children's family. As each year passes, it will continue to blaza a new trail in support of cutting edge research and life-changing programs for patients at Children's Medical Center.

Giving History

The Children's Trust has gifted nearly $325,000 to Children's to support the following:

  • The construction and equipping of one room in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (this new constructed NICU space will provide a full spectrum of multidisciplinary, family-centered care for these infants).
  • A neonatal isolette for the hospital's transport department (Children's has been providing neonatal care since 1913).
  • The pediatric asthma management program (the program focuses on asthma education, self-management skills and care coordination).
  • A mobile electrophysiology machine (the equipment monitors heart rhythms of patients after heart surgery)
  • A comprehensive research program on pediatric all-terrain vehicle injuries
  • Equipment for the new transport helicopter
  • A Smart Cycler (a piece of lab equipment that allows the clinicians to identify infectious diseases such as meningitis in a shorter time frame than previous generations of equipment, thus allowing treatment to begin sooner).
