About Critical Care Services

Mission Statement

Our goal is to establish Critical Care Services at Children's Medical Center Dallas as the premier pediatric critical care facility in the nation.

Physicians and staff pledge to

  • Provide quality, cost-effective healthcare to all patients and their families
  • Train individuals who are passionate about pediatric critical care and who will become academic and clinical leaders in the field
  • Foster an academic, diverse, educational environment that encourages ongoing evaluation and constructive feedback
  • Lead the fields of critical care medicine, nursing and respiratory care in basic translational and clinical research
  • Advocate on behalf of children and their families, emphasizing prevention, treatment and research relating to childhood critical illnesses

To fulfill this mission, pediatric intensivists lead the care of all critically ill patients in collaboration with other medical and surgical specialists in 3 different Intensive Care Units at Children's Medical Center Dallas. These units and their capacity are listed below.

  • General Medical/Surgical ICU (33 beds)
  • Cardiovascular ICU (19 beds)
  • Trauma/Neurosurgical ICU (11 beds)

As the numbers of patients coming to Children's for critical care increases, we are continually evaluating existing and future capacity to meet these increasing numbers, as well as providing the best critical care possible.
