At Children's Medical Center

Work/Life Balance

Be the One to be passionate about your career without sacrificing your social life. Children's offers many opportunities for you to balance your work and your life. Through our dual job program, and discounts for gym memberships and mass transit, you will enjoy a successful career that won't interrupt your life.

Dual job program

If you have two skill sets and want to hold two jobs at Children's, it's easy to do. For example, an RN in the clinic may want to pick up extra shifts on the inpatient units. This is an opportunity to maintain your skills or acquire new skills while earning additional income.

Requirements

To participate in the program:

  • You must declare a primary job and department.
  • Your benefits (e.g., PTO) will be driven by your primary job commitment. You may apply for a secondary job within the hospital and be paid at a different pay rate for your secondary job (e.g., pool rate).
  • Your secondary job commitments cannot interfere with those of your primary job.

Eligible Staff

Regular full-time and part-time RNs, LVNs, RCPs, OR and anesthesia technicians.

Eligible work units:

General Care units, ICUs, OR, pre- and post-anesthesia units, ER, dialysis, variable staff team, transport team.

You will receive regular pay and benefits during the months you work. You will earn PTO for a full-time employee based on your tenure and may take PTO just like other staff during your work months.

To maintain benefit eligibility during the months that you are off, a balance of 24 hours (eight hours per month off) of paid time off must be maintained in your benefit time account. You will only earn pay during the months you work (i.e., no income averaging). If you work extra during your scheduled months off, you will be paid at your regular rates for that time, on the payday for that work period.

Note:

These positions may not be available on all units or on all shifts. Each department will assess and post its ability to offer a nine-month program.
