At Children's Medical Center

Advanced Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants

The Advanced Practice Service (APS) at Children's Medical Center allows you to be the one to join a team of highly skilled healthcare professionals providing care to children with a variety of illnesses, congenital conditions and urgent care needs. Formally established in 2005, the APS currently consists of over 100 nurse practitioners and physician assistants. The organizational structure, with our Director who reports to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) as well as Managers and Team Leaders to whom individuals report, creates an atmosphere of professional collegiality and support. While the majority of the service members are Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (both primary and acute), opportunities exist for Family Nurse Practitioners, Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, Emergency Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioners and Physician’s Assistants.

Depending on the specialty area or service group, APS members provide care in both inpatient and outpatient settings as well as in our Emergency Department. We have a large and highly respected presence in the Intensive Care Units (Cardiovascular, Trauma/Neuro, NICU, and PICU). These areas rely heavily on our service members to provide the highest quality care to our most critical patients. We facilitate increased patient access to specialty care with our presence in many of the Ambulatory clinics like Gastroenterology, Pulmonology, ENT, Allergy, Immunology and Asthma, and Neurology. We provide crucial continuity of care and prompt bedside management with our involvement in services like Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics, Trauma, Oncology and General Surgery.

Additionally, as a member of the Advanced Practice Service, you are encouraged to be the one improving patient care outcomes through your participation in research and your practice in an environment supportive to education, teaching and evidence-based care. NPs and PAs are active in many different professional organizations, serve as lecturers within the facility as well as at local colleges and universities, and provide countless hours as preceptors to those in training.
